Good vs Evil
My twin sister's cat, Pixie, hates me with a passion. When I first walk into the room or approach her, she's fine, but as soon as she smells me or I talk she gets really angry and hissy/growly. When we're all in the living room watching a movie or having dinner in the dining room, she sits on her perch and growls whenever I talk. I think it has something to do with her confusion over someone who looks just like her mommy but is not. My sister thinks there's another reason:

Fatcat always gets confused the first time me and my sister are in a room together-he will stare from one to the other, and you can hear the cogwheels working (sloooowly), going "there's the blond, noisy feeder. No, wait! There she is! OMG, this is confusing! Hmm, does two people mean twice the food?" *runs into kitchen.*
I hate to disagree with your sister, what with her experiment and all, but I think your idea is probably correct.
Would make a great way of identifying evil twins in a story, though. "The cat growled! So you must be the murderer!"
Fatcat sounds like the son of a friend of mine, who looked back and forth from one woman standing next to him to her twin sister across the room, playing the piano, and finally asked, "Is that you over there playing the piano?"
Pixie sure knows how to hiss - spit - swat! Do you think if you brought treats it would help? Bribery's good...
She is gorgeous, and sooooo soft!! Too bad I rarely get to pet her- the only time she'll let me is if we let her outside in the backyard- then she's so thrilled to be outside she doesn't pay attention to who is petting her.
That is so funny that your cat has a similar confused reaction- I wish Pixie was as laid back about it as fatcat!
oh, this was so much fun to watch! who knows what goes on Pixie's brain. LOL at you - Shannon - going as far as as covering yourself in Dayna's smells (shampoo and clothes) and still be discovered by Pixie. too, too cute.
